Bouncing Babies
This is where babies begin at Starsteps. Bouncing Babies 1 is designed for those age 12months to 18months. Bouncing Babies 2 is for our 18-months to 2year old’s. This is a 45-minute parent and child focused class. Babies will work on stimulating gross motor skill development through the use of obstacle courses and preschool gymnastics equipment
Twinkle Tots
General motor skills are taught in this 45-minute independent class. In this class tots will learn how to follow the directions and work in a group setting. These tots will experience thrilling moments in the gym from rolling on the mats to playing fun parachute games with their friends. Tots will also experience gymnastics apparatuses in the form of obstacle courses, where tots are encouraged to climb crawl walk and jump from station to station.
Four Year Flippers
This is the last class in our preschool gymnastics program. This class is 45 minutes and will consist of a fun group warm up and focus on learning through repetition. In this class students will learn how to roll on the floor, balance on the beam, swing on the bars and jump on the trampoline. This class will also present skill progressions as well as skill stations, and combinations. The four-year flippers will really shine in this class.
Introduction to Gymnastics
Ages 5-8 years
This class is the next step for students that have completed the Starsteps Gymnastics Preschool Program or children interested in gymnastics with no previous experience. In this class students will be introduced to all Olympic events, including vault, bars, beam and floor. In addition to the apparatus’s students will use the trampoline, tumble track, foam pit and other specialized gymnastics equipment. Our objectives for your child is to learn proper gymnastics skills in a safe manner, and increase strength, flexibility, coordination, and fitness levels.
Beginner 1 Gymnastics
Ages 6-11
This class follows the introduction to gymnastics class. To enter this class the student must be able to do a cartwheel independently and a front support on the bars. This class will focus on event specific skill progressions, particularly the skills required for USA Gymnastics levels 1 and 2. Our goal for your child is to become a hardworking, self-confident and healthy individual.
Beginner 2 Gymnastics
Ages 8 and up
This class follows the beginner 1 gymnastics class. To enter this class the student must be able to do a cartwheel independently as well as a bridge kick over on the floor. This class will focus on event specific skill progressions, particularly the skills required for USA Gymnastics levels 3 and 4. Once your child reaches this level we recommend coming at least twice a week to build the strength required to continue progressing to the next level which is Intermediate. The student can take 2 beginner gymnastic 2 classes or can take a strength and conditioning class along with their gymnastics class.
Intermediate Gymnastics
Ages 8 and up
This class is the next level up from the beginner class. To join this class gymnasts must have pullovers & back-hip circles on bars, hand-stands & cartwheels on beam, front-handsprings & back-handsprings on floor, & hand-stand flat back on the vault mat. This class will focus on event specific skill progressions, particularly the skills required for USA Gymnastics level 5.
Introduction to Tumbling
Ages 5-8
In this 45-minute class students will be introduced to the floor exercise, tumble trak, and trampoline. Students will bounce their hearts out and learn the basic building blocks of tumbling.
Beginner 1 Tumbling
Ages 6-11
This class is the class that follows introduction to tumbling. Students should be able to do a cartwheel before entering this class. At this level students will begin to put sequences of tricks together on the floor exercise, tumble trak, and trampoline. This class would be a great addition for a student that is also taking cheer or dance.
Beginner 2 Tumbling
This class is the class that follows beginner 1 tumbling. Students should be able to do a cartwheel and a bridge kick over before entering this class. In this class students will work toward a round off back hand spring as well as a front hand spring. All of our tumbling classes will spend time on the spring floor, tumble trak, and trampoline.
Intermediate Tumbling
This class is the class that follows beginner 2 tumbling. Students should be able to do a back-hand spring before entering this class. We also recommend taking strength and conditioning along with this class to build muscles that are necessary for more powerful tumbling. All of our tumbling classes will spend time on the spring floor, tumble trak, and trampoline.
Twinkles
Ages 3-5
Come cheer with Starsteps in this 45-minute introduction to cheerleading! This class will introduce children to all the basics of cheerleading, including voice projection, cheers, chants, jumps, sharp motion technique, dance, stunts, and basic tumbling. Our goal is to increase self-confidence, strength, physical health and teamwork.
Starbursts
Ages 5-8
Come cheer with Starsteps in this 45-minute introduction to cheerleading! This class will follow Twinkles and continue to introduce children to all the basics of cheerleading, including voice projection, cheers, chants, jumps, sharp motion technique, dance, stunts, and basic tumbling. Our goal is to increase self-confidence, strength, physical health and teamwork.
Extreme Stars
Ages 6-11
This is a 45-minute class that focuses on getting students ready for middle school cheerleading try outs. Students will work on voice projection, cheers, chants, jumps sharp motion technique, dance, stunts and basic tumbling. Our goal is to increase self-confidence, strength, physical health and teamwork.
Stars Elite
Ages 8yrs and up
Stars Elite is a 45-minute class that covers every aspect of cheerleading. We will strive to build strong character while teaching cheers, chants, jumps, sharp motion technique, dance choreography, stunting and tumbling. We recommend taking this class along with a tumbling or strength class at Starsteps Gymnastics Center.
The Introduction to Aerial Arts and Intermediate/Advanced Aerial Arts classes will allow students to explore the climbs, techniques, and skills involved with performing on Aerial silks and lyra/cerceau. Utilizing the appropriate equipment and safe environment of the new Starsteps Gymnastics facility, students (both youth and adults) can learn from certified and experienced Aerial performer, Celia Thurmond. The Aerial Arts classes will build and emphasize strength conditioning, safety, and basic technique required for Aerial performance. Come see how fun it can be to dance and flip 20 feet in the air!
Notes:
Strength & Conditioning Class recommended.
Aerial arts are dangerous and should be approached with great respect and discipline.
Students should wear tight-fitting clothing (in accordance with dress code) that they can freely move in.
Please no jewelry (stud earrings are okay), hair should be secured back, and no chewing gum.
Level 1: Beginner
On silks: Climbs, foot locks/knots, inversions/going upside down, grip strength, descents, some skills involving flips, and other skills that we can later link into a routine.
On lyra/cerceau: Straddle mounts, knee hocks, pullovers, splits, gazelle, mermaid, man-in-the-moon, and other skills that we can later link together into a routine.
Level 2: Intermediate
On silks: Climbs, different types of foot locks/knots in the air, inversions/going upside down from a climb, inverted descents, flips and drops, and linking several of these skills into a routine.
On lyra/cerceau: Various mounts, single knee hocks on top and bottom bar, pullovers transitioning into other moves, foot and ankle hangs, and linking several of these skills into a routine.
Level 3: Advanced
On silks: Creative climbs, adding swings and spins to various moves, inversions, challenging inverted descents, challenging flips and drops, and linking these skills into a routine.
On lyra/cerceau: Various mounts, "meat hooks," chard, working with the spanset as well as the lyra, foot and ankle hangs, much more work on transitions and working with the top bar, and linking these skills into a routine.
Starsteps strength and conditioning class is available for any student over the age of 6. This class would be a great addition to any athlete, dancer or gymnast who wants to improve their strength or maximize their performance. This class will focus on building core body strength and upper body strength, and may include cardio exercise, body weight exercise and stretching.
